Rules


The rules for the Spring 2022 season are now void and shall be replaced by the following rules:


General

  1. Fantasy Anime League Fall 2022 season will start on October 2, 2022.
  2. Before this date, each player will make a team by choosing five (5) active anime and three (3) bench anime from the Fall 2022 season.
  3. For the 13 weeks the FAL season is in session, points will be awarded every Sunday at 22:00 GMT beginning October 9, 2022.
  4. Points will be given for various statistics on the anime title's MyAnimeList database entry and for actions taken by the player. The criteria for how these points are calculated is provided below.
  5. Note that points will only accumulate while the FAL season is in session. Episode discussion forum posts that were made before the FAL season starts will not count.
  6. Players are not required to be active during the FAL season. Nor do they need to watch the anime on their team. Players are free to take action (Ace, Swap, Wildcard) when they feel it is in their benefit.

Anime Titles

  1. Eligible titles are provided on the registration page. Please note OVA, ONA, Movies, and Specials are not included.
  2. Eligible anime can be used in any combination in your team, except you can only have a maximum of one (1) title from the following list: Fumetsu no Anata e 2nd Season; Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Double; Blue Lock.
  3. Please note the following anime are not eligible due to significantly high popularity: Chainsaw Man; Mob Psycho 100 III; Boku no Hero Academia 6th Season; Spy x Family Part 2; Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen are also not eligible due to their unconventional release.

Active/Bench & Swaps

  1. Only anime titles on the active team will score points; the bench anime will not score any points.
  2. To move a bench anime to the active team, the player must also choose an active anime to move to the bench. Thus, the active/bench positions of two selected anime titles are swapped.
  3. A player may swap a maximum of four (4) times during the 13 weeks of the FAL season. The only exception to this is by using the "extra swap" wildcard.

Aces

  1. In any week of the FAL season, one (1) active anime on a team may be declared as the "Ace." The Ace will take effect at the end of the week when the scores are counted.
  2. Aces are available as soon as the FAL season begins.
  3. Each anime on a team may be declared as an Ace only one (1) time per FAL season.
  4. Once an anime passes 85,000+ members in "Watching" and "Completed" combined, that anime is no longer eligible to be an Ace. The anime with the next highest total points on the team will then be awarded points if correctly declared as the Ace.

Wildcards

  1. All players are given the opportunity to choose one (1) wildcard from four (4) possible options:
    1. Booster: A fixed boost in points.
    2. Extra swap: At a fixed cost of points, immediately swap one active anime to bench and one bench anime to active.
    3. Bomber (up version): At a fixed cost of points, remove a greater amount of points from the team equal to or above you in rank.
    4. Bomber (down version): At a fixed cost of points, remove a greater amount of points from the team equal to or below you.
  2. Wildcards are not available until Week 10 of the season and may only be used one (1) time.

Special Cases

  1. In the event that two (2) or more teams are ranked first place with the same score at the end of the FAL season, their bench anime will be used as a tiebreaker. The team with the bench anime that score the most points during the entire FAL season will win.
  2. In the event that an anime has not begun airing by week 5, the anime will be disqualified and points will no longer be tallied for it. It will not be replaced with another anime.
  3. In the event that an anime's database entry is removed after the FAL season has started, the anime will be disqualified and points will no longer be tallied for it. It will not be replaced with another anime.



Points Criteria


The following points are automatically counted using the anime in the active team during the FAL season.


Users Watching (every week):

  1. +0.5 points for each user on MAL who has the anime under "Watching" or "Completed" that week. If the anime has not aired yet, these will be assumed 0.
  2. +0.25 points in Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.

Episode Discussions (Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13):

  1. +100 points for each forum post in the anime's episode discussion threads in the previous two weeks.
  2. +200 points in Week 13 for each post in the previous one week.

Score (Weeks 3, 7, 10, 13):

  1. +20,000*(score - 6.00) points for the anime's score on MAL.
  2. +40,000*(score - 6.00) points in Week 13.

Dropped Users (Weeks 4, 8, 11, 13):

  1. -4 points for each user on MAL who has the anime under "Dropped" that week.
  2. -8 points in Week 13.

Favorites (Weeks 5, 9, 12, 13):

  1. +15 points for each user on MAL who has added the anime to Favorites by that week.
  2. +30 points in Week 13.

The following points depend on actions taken by the player:


Ace

  1. +75,000 points if the Aced anime collected the most points on the team for that week.
  2. -5,000 points if the Ace does not become the anime with the most points on the team for that week, or has passed the 85,000 members threshold in "Watching" + "Completed".

Wildcard

  1. Booster: +10,000 points added to the player's team score.
  2. Extra swap: -5,000 points subtracted from the player's team score.
  3. Bomber (up and down): -5,000 points subtracted from the player, -20,000 points taken from the team which is hit by the bomb.

Taking an average of the top 20 anime from the previous season and assuming the player Aces 5 anime during the season, the points distribution is approximately:


  1. Users Watching: +50%
  2. Episode Discussions: +15%
  3. Score: +20%
  4. Dropped: -10%
  5. Favorites: +15%
  6. Aces: +10%

BY ENTERING OR OTHERWISE PARTICIPATING IN THIS FANTASY ANIME LEAGUE, ALL ENTRANTS AND OTHER PARTICIPANTS AGREE TO ABIDE BY THESE OFFICIAL EVENT RULES, WHICH ARE FINAL AND BINDING ON ALL MATTERS PERTAINING TO THIS EVENT.


01. Sponsor


This Fantasy Anime League is sponsored by MyAnimeList Co.,Ltd. (“MyAnimeList” or “Sponsor”). The event is void in whole or in part where prohibited by law.


02. Eligibility


This Fantasy Anime League is open only to individuals who have registered accounts with MAL.


Additional eligibility requirements may apply to certain prize items. Sponsor shall have the right at any time to require proof of age, identity and/or eligibility to participate in the event. Failure to provide such proof or insufficient proof may result in disqualification from the event in Sponsor’s sole discretion. All information requested by and supplied to Sponsor for the purpose of the event must be truthful, complete, accurate and in no way misleading. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant from the event should such an entrant at any stage supply unsatisfactory, untruthful, incomplete, inaccurate or misleading information. Sponsor’s employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate in this event.


03. Event Period


The period for entering the Fantasy Anime League begins September 15, 2022 and ends on October 2, 2022 at 21:59 PM (GMT). This will run for 13 weeks and will end on January 1, 2023.


04. How to Enter the Event


There is no purchase necessary to enter the Fantasy Anime League. To enter this event, review and follow these Official Event Rules, sign up for a MyAnimeList account (if you don’t already have one) or login to your MyAnimeList account and then make your team. Do not create more than one account to submit numerous applications. Multiple applications by one person or the use of any system, robot, agent, or software to automatically submit entries in connection with this event is prohibited and will result in all applications and entries from that person being disqualified. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for late applications or entry failures due to technological or other issues.

All participants will receive a "proof of participation" badge. This will be displayed on your profile page.


06. Winner Selection


Potential winners are the person with the top 10 ranking at the end of the event on Jan 1, 2023. Sponsor will email the potential winners at the email address registered at time of entry with further information and any additional requirements to accept the prizes. If a potential winner cannot be contacted within 72 hours, fails to respond to any attempted contact, is otherwise in non-compliance with these Official Event Rules, or declines to or cannot accept the prize to be awarded, such potential winner will be disqualified, his/her entry will be declared null and void and the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to select at random another eligible entry, in which event these provisions shall apply to such other eligible entry.


07. Release


By entering this Fantasy Anime League, you release MyAnimeList and its affiliates, employees, officers, managers and agents from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, related to any claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with this event or transmission, failed transmission or acceptance of any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or any other theory.


08. Sponsor's Reservation of Rights


Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, cancel, suspend and/or revise the rules of the Fantasy Anime League for any or no reason. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual in violation of these Official Event Rules or if Sponsor discovers such individual to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the event or acting in an unlawful or disruptive manner. Sponsor's failure to enforce any term or provision of these Official Event Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that term or provision.


09. Privacy


Information collected from you in connection with this Fantasy Anime League will be used by Sponsor for its administration of the event, including to verify your eligibility and notify potential winners and to fulfill prizes. In addition, Sponsor may use information collected about you or feed back from you to send you offers or information from us about our products and services, or about the products and services of our affiliates and business partners. If you do not wish to receive such offers and information, you may opt-out at any time by following the instructions at the bottom of any promotional email you receive or by following other opt-out instructions provided in the communication. Information collected is otherwise subject to and may be used and shared by MyAnimeList in accordance with MyAnimeList's Privacy Policy at https://myanimelist.net/about/privacy_policy and applicable law.

Users of MyAnimeList are subject to MyAnimeList’s Terms of Use Agreement at https://myanimelist.net/about/terms_of_use, which are incorporated herein by reference.
